BOSTON —
David Carpenter is on the move — again.
The East Fairmont graduate and former West Virginia baseball standout was traded for a second time this season on Sunday, dealt from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Boston Red Sox as part of a compensation package for manager John Farrell.
Carpenter, a right-handed reliever, only spent three months in the Toronto organization after being acquired from the Houston Astros as part of 10-player trade on July 20.
The 27-year-old pitched in 33 games, just three with the Blue Jays, this season. He also had 23 minor league appearances split over his time with Toronto and Houston.
In 67 career appearances in the majors, Carpenter is 1-5 with one save and a 5.70 ERA. He has 60 strikeouts in as many innings.
Boston will be Carpenter’s fourth professional organization. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him as a catcher in the 12th round in 2006 and converted him to pitching two years later.
