How tough is life on the road in the Big 12?
How about this as an idea: West Virginia plays its first road game ever in the conference Saturday in Austin, Texas, against the University of Texas Longhorns with more than 100,000 people expected.
There have been 16 crowds of 100,000 or more at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium since it opened in 1924.
A week ago, WVU put 70 points on the board. In three of the last five games WVU has put 69 or 70 on the board. WVU is averaging 53 points a game this year.
So how many points are the oddsmakers forcing the Mountaineers to lay against Texas?
They are laying no
points. Instead, they are a touchdown underdog.
At Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, where they have played, the Longhorns are 350-97-10, which figures out to a .777 winning percentage. Texas once won 42 consecutive games at home, going from Oct. 5, 1968, to Nov. 6, 1976, when it lost to Houston, 30-0.
