BRIDGEPORT — One West Virginia school is apparently overdue for a good cleaning from the bottom, up: It's got bats in the attic.
And where there are bats, there's bat waste.
Administrators at Simpson Elementary School in Harrison County say they're working with state officials, consultants and exterminators to address the problem.
Bill Elswick, director of the state Office of School Facilities, said Thursday there is no danger to students, staff or the community.
But parents Maria Reppert and Debbie Estanich say several students fell ill recently, and their children developed rashes that cleared up when they came home. Other kids suffered eye irritation, nausea and vomiting.
Several students are being given home-schooled while the problem is resolved.
