CHARLESTON — State archives and history officials are trying to add some details to the 11,427 names carved in the West Virginia Veterans Memorial at the state Capitol.
For five years, the Division of Culture and History has been gathering information for use in online biographies of all the veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War listed on the memorial.
So far, officials have completed 47 biographies and three more are nearly ready.
The work has been delayed recently by the parallel effort to restore the memorial after it was damaged when a car drove through it. The repairs also allowed officials to re-carve faded names and add missing ones.
