Drug Take-Back event nets 3,742 pounds in W.Va.

CHARLESTON — West Virginians turned in 3,742 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs during the state’s fifth Drug Take-Back Day.

Federal officials said the unused or expired drugs were collected Saturday at 120 sites across the state.

During the previous event in April, residents turned in more than 4,500 pounds of unwanted drugs.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin and John Ryan with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration say ridding homes of unwanted drugs helps authorities fight prescription drug abuse.
