W.Va.: Only essential state workers report Monday

CHARLESTON — West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says only essential state employees should report to their jobs on Monday.

In a statement issued Sunday, Tomblin said he made that decision after touring the state to get a firsthand look at the damage from a Friday night storm.

Tomblin said 493,000 power outages remain and he wants state workers to avoid unnecessary travel while emergency crews and utility workers are out.

The governor described essential employees as those who work in facilities open ’round-the-clock or those who provide services related to the health, safety and welfare of state residents.
