CHARLESTON —
The West Virginia Board of Education is preparing to discuss its response to a wide-ranging audit of the state’s education system.
Board members have scheduled a special meeting Wednesday.
Board President Wade Linger says his top priority is increasing student achievement. He says West Virginia’s statewide graduation rate is 78 percent and one in four high school students doesn’t graduate on time.
Linger also wants to revitalize the connection with local school systems and build mutual trust.
His other priorities are moving forward on reforms with a commitment to change and transparency, and improving communications with the Department of Education, the Governor’s Office, the Legislature and teachers organizations.
Wednesday’s meeting comes less than a week after the board voted 5-2 to fire state Schools Superintendent Jorea Marple.
