Soccer injury costs East’s Onderko junior wrestling season

FAIRMONT — East Fairmont’s Hunter Onderko should be participating in next weekend’s North Central Athletic Conference wrestling tournament.

He did last year. He also finished third in regionals at 119 and earned a state tournament berth where he went 1-2.

Oh, he’ll be at the NCAC tournament, but he’ll be cheering on his younger brother Garrett and his teammates from the stands.

Onderko suffered a torn ACL as well as his MCL, which was also detached from the bone, in his left knee in the last game of boys’ soccer season against Fairmont Senior, a sport he never played until this year.

The injury was so severe that it sidelined him for wrestling season, the sport he truly loves.
