FAIRMONT —
University came into Friday night’s game ranked among the top Class AAA teams in the state.
It didn’t take long for the Hawks to prove those lofty numbers right.
UHS marched down the field and scored before many East-West Stadium attendees had even found their seat and followed it up with an interception return on East’s third play of the game to take a 14-0 lead and never look back as the Hawks routed the Bees, 59-28.
“We didn’t have the intensity to come out and play tonight,” East Fairmont head coach Bill Haddox said. “We’re missing too many assignments on defense, which means we are not in position to make a tackle. The interception tip, those things happen sometimes, but there were plenty of other times where we were not in position to stop them.”
The Hawks struck quickly on a 26-yard touchdown run by Micah Wilson, who broke a pair of tackles in the backfield before the big gain.
