FAIRMONT —
With Morgantown no longer the roadblock to the state tournament, the new Class AA version of Fairmont Senior’s boys’ basketball team might have looked at Tuesday’s matchup with the Mohigans a bit differently.
“Tonight was a big indicator for us,” Fairmont Senior coach David Retton said of MHS, a longtime triple-A regional foe. “A measuring stick.”
Turns out, these Polar Bears measure up pretty darn well.
Travon Horton had a monster first half and the team’s defense and bench did the rest, as No. 2 Fairmont Senior rolled to a 67-54 win at the Woody Williams Armory.
The victory moved FSHS to 16-5 and removed the bad taste from Saturday’s road loss at Allegany (Md.).
