It’s all come down to this.
Thanks to a dominating performance in Tuesday afternoon’s Class AA-A state semifinal match with Bluefield, rolling to a 5-1 victory at Trace Fork Field in Charleston, the Fairmont Senior boys’ soccer program is now one victory away from the ultimate prize.
“We’re here. We did it. Just one more game,” Fairmont Senior defender Justin Sloan said.
One more match. One more win. Just 80 minutes. That’s all that stands between Fairmont Senior and its first state soccer championships, no matter the classification, in school history.
The Polar Bears will get their chance at 10 a.m. today when they take on three-time defending state champ Charleston Catholic, a 2-1 winner over Bridgeport in Tuesday’s other semifinal. Fairmont Senior, in its first season in Class AA and back after a three-year state tournament hiatus, last made the state final in 2005.
