WFMS wrestlers win invite title


CAMERON — West Fairmont’s Middle School wrestling team had a successful weekend, earning six first-place finishes en route to winning the Cameron Invitational Saturday.

Individual champions for the Polar Bears included Colin Masters (90 pounds), Anthony Alvaro (110), Brent Wyne (116), Joe Shearer (123), Troy Thompson (190) and Jaron Summers (285).

Braden Mick (128) and Ryder Skarzinski (171) each added second-place finishes, while Neil Scherich (145) took fourth in his weight class.

As a team, the Polar Bears scored 192 points.

Mannington was fifth with 111.5 points. Tanner Hayes (84), Ryan Arnett (95), Ryan Elliott (102) and Austin Stanley (110) took second place, Austin Martin (155) was third, and Justin Efaw (90) and Tyler Arnett (171) placed fourth overall.

A week earlier, West Fairmont Middle posted season opening wins over Taylor County 48-36 and Mountaineer Middle 54-33.

Masters (90), Alvaro (110), Scherich (145), Skarzinski (171), Thompson (190), Summers (285) and Vincent Delligatti (155 pounds) each had records of 2-0 to pace the Polar Bears.

In addition, Wyne (116), Shearer (123) and Tanner Holbert (78) won one match apiece. Wyatt Crawley (135) added a victory in an exhibition match.
