CLARKSBURG — Fairmont Senior’s and East Fairmont’s swimming teams opened the season Monday at the 13th Clarksburg Rotary Holiday Invitational.
The Polar Bears’ girls’ team took second (265) and the boys’ team was fourth (119).
East Fairmont’s girls’ team was eighth (44) and the boys’ team was sixth (79).
Bridgeport won both the boys’ and girls’ meets.
The top 12 finishers in each race placed, according to Fairmont Senior coach Steve Sandor.
Marion County only had one winner — FSHS’ Zela Wyrosdick (6:00.85) in the girls’ 500 Free. Wyrosdick also placed 2nd in the 200 Free (2:18.46)
FSHS dominated the girls’ 200 medley relay taking 4th (Wyrosdick, Alexandrea Murray, Lauren Sansalone, Tessa Gardner), 6th (Brittnay Shpepard, Cortney Bright, Lindsey Hearn, Autumn Hansen), and 11th (Olivia Osbourn, Paige Starrett, Ali Sansalone, Georgette Ball). East’s team of (Sarah Marsicano, Katelin Grdgon, Reghan Bailey, Alex Delaney) took 8th.
The Polar Bear girls took three places again in the 200 free relay with a 4th (Brionna Minney, Gardner, Daren Wadsworth, Chelsea Clark), 5th (Camille Leon, Murray, Hansen, Lindsey Hearn) and 12th (Ball, Kiley Moore, Ali Sansalone, Starrett). EFHS’s Bailey, Grgdon, Catherine Boyles and Mariscano took 8th.
The Bears also had two relay place-winners in the 400 free relay. They took 2nd with the team of Minney, Leon, Wadsworth, Clark and 4th with the team of (Hansen, Sheppard, Bright and Wyrosdick.
East Fairmont’s team of Josef Govic, Ronnie Cosco, Grant Chapman, Chandler Kendall took 6th in the boys’ 200 medley relay and FSHS’ team of Chris Nestor, Andrew McCoy, Jacob Wells, Steven Zembraski was 7th.
The Bears had two points winners in the 200 free relay — 4th (Alex Petry, McCoy, Wells, Andrew Bonasso) and 9th (Zembraski, Chris Nestor, Evin Mathai, Logan Demyon). East ( ovic, Kendall, Cosco, Chapman) finished 6th.
FSHS’ Petry, Demyon, Wells and Bonasso also finished 3rd in the 400 free relay.
In girls’ individual events, East was led by Marsicano.
She took 5th in the 200 free (2:22.49) and 5th in the 100 back (1:17.12).
The only other East girls’ place-winner was Sarah Layman, 9th 200 IM (3:04.99)
FSHS girls’ place-winners were: Leon, 9th 200 free (2:26.96) and 7th in the 100 fly (1:15.75); Lauren Sansalone, 11th in the 200 free (2:30.46); Wadsworth, 2nd 200 IM (2:35.97) and 4th 100 breast stroke (1:21.43); Clark, 7th in 50 free (27.63) and 2nd in 100 free (1:00.73); Minney, 8th in 50 free (27.78) and 3rd in 100 fly (1:10.69); Hearn, 11th in 50 free (28.72) and 12th in 100 free (1:07.74); Gardner, 8th in 100 free (1:04.61); Murray, 10th in 100 free (1:06.49) and 5th in 100 breast stroke (1:21.90; Sheppard, 11th in 100 free (1:07.02); Olivia Osbourn, 12th in 100 back (1:27.16) and Bright, 8th in 100 breast stroke (1:23.26).
FSHS boys’ indvidual place-winners were: Evin Mathai, 10th on 200 free (2:35.58); Bonasso, 3rd in 50 free (23.82) and 3rd in 100 free (52.46); Chris Nestor, 9th in 200 IM (2:49.71); Petry, 9th in 50 free (25.67) and 6th in 100 back (1:08.13); Demyon, 9th in 100 free (1:02.31) and Andrew McCoy, 10th in 100 breast stroke (1:18.57).
East was led by Josef Govic, 10th in 50 free (25.88) and 6th in 100 free (58.76); Grant Chapman, 3rd in the 200 IM (2:23.82) and 3rd in the 100 fly (1:02.58) and Isaac Rush, 7th in the 500 free, 6:49.15)
