FAIRMONT — When Brooks Nucilli put together a collegiate wish list, mentally scribbled down where he’d like to continue his soccer career, he gave himself a few options.
Part of him, though, dropped the pen after the first line. Because for as long as the Fairmont Senior standout could remember, he wanted to be a Mountaineer.
“That’s where I’ve always wanted to play, and I didn’t really have a backup plan if I didn’t go there,” he said. “That was my goal, to go to West Virginia.”
That dream became reality last week, as Nucilli verbally committed to play at WVU starting next season.
He’s just the second Polar Bear to earn a Division I scholarship, joining Brett Parker, who signed with Belmont in 2007. More than that, he’s the first soccer player in Marion County to sign with the high-profile, highly-successful Mountaineer program.
