FAIRMONT — Needless to say, there won’t be much in the way of surprises Friday night at East-West Stadium.
Fairmont Senior and University know each other quite well. And each has a general idea of what to expect in this week’s Class AAA second-round playoff matchup.
“They pretty much know what we do, and we pretty much know what they do,” Fairmont Senior coach J.L. Abbott said.
What the No. 13 Hawks do better than most is play bone-crushing defense.
They’ve posted four shutouts and have held opponents to single digits in seven games this season.
University (8-3) has hit its stride of late, allowing just seven points in the past four games, including three shutouts.

The Polar Bear girls piled up 82 team points, just behind runner-up Elkins (85) and team champ Buckhannon-Upshur (110). -
Huntington girls beat North Marion
Kiana Evans scored 26 points and Lakisha Adkins added 22 as the visiting Huntington Highlanders snuck out of Marion County with a 73-69 win against North Marion on Saturday.

North Marion’s boys’ basketball team kept its winning ways going Friday night with a 53-32 road victory at Buckhannon-Upshur.
The No. 10 Huskies, who have won four straight, are now 13-2 overall and 6-2 in Big Ten play. -
