RACHEL — While there’s shiny new hardware in the school trophy case, the North Marion girls’ basketball team certainly isn’t resting on its laurels after last season’s state championship run.
No, these Huskies want more. They remember the feeling when Mariah Byard’s jumper fell through the net to win the Class AAA title over Huntington, and they want to experience it again.
So what’s the difference between this year and last? Well, for one, North is the hunted, not the hunter.
Many observers have pegged the Huskies, who return all but one starter from last season’s 26-1 squad, as the team to beat once again.
“I think (teams) were gunning for us last year, too,” North coach Mike Parrish said. “This year gives them a little more reason to gun for you. It’ll be interesting.”
