Q: You’re now the director of the Bees’ Circle of Honor summer wrestling camp. What has that been like?
A: I did it last year, too. This time, I had a year under my belt so it was a little easier. It’s definitely different than going to the camp. I went to the camp in pee wees up through. Learning from the Jeff Courtneys and Matt Millers to teaching young kids is completely different.

Q: Aside from having fun, what was the main point of emphasis when teaching the sport in a clinic setting?
A: The last two years, the majority have been younger kids, sixth grade and below. I had to change my focus from technical things to the basics — stance, setting up any shot you have. I tell them in college, you don’t use all the fancy moves that you see in high school. You’ll see some guys do it, but the majority of the moves in college are basics. I have a go-to shot, one I’ll shoot on every guy. I know other shows, but toward the end of the year I didn’t feel comfortable shooting them in a match and that’s what I tried to emphasize with these kids; you have to have two or three shots that you have to be perfect at. If one shot is not there, you can go to the next one.
