FAIRMONT —
Following an outstanding girls’ lacrosse season that included a state championship, Fairmont Senior’s Makenzi Robinson has continued to hone her game over the summer.
And that hard work paid off in a big way last week as Robinson, a junior attacker for the Polar Bears, earned several honors at the University of Maryland Lacrosse Camp in College Park, Md.
Her play lifted her team to first place at the camp and individually, Robinson received the Gatorade Award for most outstanding player. Additionally, during the camp’s skills competition, she won the top prize for longest goal.
The camp was attended by several hundred high school girls’ players, some from as far away as Texas, and coached by Maryland’s NCAA championship team along with several college coaches. Robinson hopes to play lacrosse at the collegiate level after graduation.
Last season as a sophomore, Robinson helped the Polar Bears win a third straight state title and finish the year unbeaten at 15-0. She was third in the state in scoring (66 points), while finishing third in goals (50) and first in assists (16), and was named first-team all-state.
