CHARLESTON — North Marion girls’ basketball team spends a lot of their time at practice running and conditioning.
And it’s paid off with their second straight Class AAA state title.
North ran past No. 2 South Charleston, 58-45, in the second half Saturday at the Charleston Civic Center to become the first Class AAA team to repeat since those same Black Eagles did it in 2003 and 2004.
“It was just like last year, a total team effort,” North Marion head coach Mike Parrish said. “These girls have devoted a lot of time and work and will never give up. They play every possession and refuse to lose and we love every one of them.”
The Huskies took a quick 5-0 lead at the start of play on a rare 3-pointer from Hailey Garrett and then a follow-up jumper inside by the junior.
