FAIRMONT — If you’ve sat in stands during a recent high school sporting event, there is a good chance you’ve heard the rumors. If you’re the type who frequents Internet message boards, you’re probably assuming Marion County’s three schools are already packed and waiting in the driveway for the Big 10 moving truck.
But hold on a minute. Nothing is official yet. Fairmont Senior, East Fairmont and North Marion are still members of the North Central Athletic Conference.
However, that could change. According to published reports, the Big 10 Conference discussed the possibility of adding the three schools during its meeting last Sunday. The following day, the NCAC discussed the future of the league — and possible additions to the conference — during its meeting.
“A true sports conference has eight teams,” Fairmont Senior principal and NCAC president Chad Norman told the Dominion Post last week.
