FAIRMONT — Two down, one to go.
The Fairmont Senior boys’ basketball team took another step toward a state tournament appearance Friday, using a huge fourth quarter en route to a gutsy 57-42 win over Preston in the Class AAA, Region I, Section 2 title game at Fairmont State University’s Joe Retton Arena.
Morgantown, a 45-39 loser to Wheeling Park in the other sectional final, is all that stands between the Polar Bears and a trip to Charleston. They’ll face the Mohigans — who swept the regular-season series by a combined 11 points — at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Woody Williams Armory.
Fairmont Senior, now 16-4 on the year, last advanced to states in 2007.
