Another Winner’s Choice wrestling tournament is in the books.
Following a grueling weekend of wrestling that featured the best wrestlers in the entire state of West Virginia, a trio of Marion County wrestlers came out victorious — North Marion’s Ryan Elliott at 120 pounds, East Fairmont’s Jesse Roman at 195 and Fairmont Senior’s Vincent Delligatti at 220.
“I was telling my guys that this tournament has the best wrestlers from every division,” Fairmont Senior’s head coach Mark Delligatti stated. “That shows you how strong our tournament is and people will tell you throughout the state on how well it’s run. The people in Marion County and if they’re a wrestling fan and enjoy this sport, this was a great place to be. It is the best tournament in the state.”
With the best wrestlers in the state going head to head, the mood and intensity was intense at the Woody Williams Armory — where the tournament’s been held since 1977.

Polar Bears fall to Morgantown in state championship
The streak ends while Morgantown prevails.
Fairmont Senior’s five-year state championship streak in lacrosse came to an abrupt end against an undefeated (15-0) Mohigan team on Saturday afternoon, 12-9. -
North girls take home two titles
Add more state titles to the North Marion girls’ track team.
This time, it was the 4 x 100- and 4 x 200-meter relay teams that brought home the gold at the state meet Saturday in Charleston. -
Trefz wins state title in 3,200 meter
Winning it all.
Fairmont Senior’s senior phenom Nick Trefz can now call himself a state champion in track.
Trefz took home the gold in the 3,200 meters in Charleston on Friday with a time of 9:36.21. -
Polar Bears cruise past Notre Dame
Polar Bear baseball gets it done yet again.
During exhibition play against Notre Dame on Friday evening, Fairmont Senior was able to keep its eight-game winning streak alive. -
Tyler Walter making most of opportunity in college

That’s exactly what former Fairmont Senior first baseman Tyler Walter did during his freshman season at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland.
“I wanted to get an opportunity and needed to prove that I belonged,” Walter said. -
