FAIRMONT —
If any fans at the Woody Williams Armory didn’t know Kaden Whaley’s name before the Fairmont Senior Holiday Classic began, they’re well aware today.
Whaley, Fairmont Senior’s athletic sophomore forward, had a game to remember in the nightcap of Friday’s first-year tournament. She scored 25 points, added 15 rebounds and paced the host Polar Bears to a 62-41 rout of Braxton County.
Both totals — points and rebounds — set new career highs for Whaley. It also pushed Fairmont Senior’s season record to 4-2 going into today’s tournament game with Frankfort.
“It was an excellent game,” Fairmont Senior coach Corey Hines said of Whaley. “She can do that everyday. She’s one of those players, if she plays up to her potential, that makes us a scary team. She was in the zone — getting putbacks, running the floor and playing really good defense — and I’m proud of her.”
Whaley did most of her damage early on. She had nine points in the first quarter alone and finished the first half at 15 points and seven rebounds.
