RACHEL —
On a night where the shots weren’t exactly falling, East Fairmont’s boys’ basketball team never got down.
Instead, the Bees kept their heads up and used rebounding and defense to knock off rival North Marion, 58-50.
“It was a hard game,” East coach Tyrone Asterino said. “We were battling. We played awful hard. I’m proud of the guys.”
The win moves the Bees to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big 10, and was one of those victories every good squad has over the course of the year.
It did not matter that East went 10-of-21 on free throws and missed nine foul shots in the fourth quarter alone, because the Bees crashed the boards and held a sizeable rebounding edge.
Nor did it matter than the Bees scored 10 points in a sloppy third period, because they held their own defensely and limited North’s Cody Opron (six points) and Matt Cain (seven) to a combined 13 points.
