COLUMN: Bees hoping to sting their competition this season

FAIRMONT — In high school sports, only two things matter — winning a conference championship and winning a state championship.

No matter what sport, athletes will compete in the off-season, while obtaining a chip on their shoulder, to become an elite player.

For the East Fairmont Bees wrestling squad, it’s a team which is foaming at the mouth and eager to get it done this year.

“The slogan that we joke about is, ‘One shot, one opportunity,’ with our seniors,” said East’s head coach John Geary. “This is it for them; they don’t have a next year. Everything has to fall in place, where you have to have a 113-pounder who is tough and a 120-pounder who is good and then you hope all of those guys pull through for you. We have some great kids, and I’m proud of all of them, and they really do work hard.”
