FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior’s boys’ lacrosse team is peaking at the right time.
The Polar Bears, fresh off a tight win against Morgantown just two days earlier, continued their hot streak Thursday with a 7-6 overtime victory over University at East-West Stadium.
Phil Colasessano scored the game-winning goal on a pass from Louie Romano with about a minute-and-half left in the overtime period.
The Hawks entered the contest an unbeaten 7-0 in league play. Fairmont Senior, who scored four times in the fourth period to inch closer, improves to 11-4 and 9-3 in the conference.
“We’ve been fighting illness and injury all year, and this is a huge boost,” Fairmont Senior coach Jarrott Brogdon said. “That was the best game we’ve played all year.”
David Heck and Tyler Ross each scored two goals to pace the Polar Bears. Heck also chipped in an assist, while Romano had one goal and three helpers. Stephen Sinclair also scored in the victory.
John Mark Shaver had eight saves in goal for Fairmont Senior.
