FAIRMONT — Though not as time-sensitive as that milk carton sitting in the back of the fridge, coaches want their wrestlers fresh for the season’s stretch run.
Fairmont Senior’s Mark Delligatti is no different when applying the late-January brakes on his team.
“You want to save them,” he said. “This late in the year, you get hurt or knocked out, you may not be ready for regionals. Coaches get real conservative.”
That was certainly the case in Friday night’s home quad. Whether it was a 42-36 victory over Buckhannon-Upshur, a 42-all tie with Nicholas County or a 54-27 loss to No. 3 Huntington, the Polar Bears treaded carefully.
