FAIRMONT — While many 12-year-old youngsters spend the summer months at the pool or hanging out with friends, Mason Gross has better things to do.
He’s a “Junior Dragster” and he spends nearly every weekend at tracks on the East Coast. Two weekends ago he placed second in the individual racing category and his team placed first in team racing. That race involved “all of the kids East of the Mississippi” and was held at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
He became active in the sport at the age of 8, but he’s been interested in it since he was 3 years old.
“That was the best I’ve done this year in a big race,” Mason said. “Last year I made it to the last six cars and this year I made it to the finals.”
He says he became interested in the sport because of his dad, James “Bo” Gross.
