FAIRMONT —
The Fairmont Senior High School girls’ basketball team is coming off a nail-biting loss last season against Morgantown in the regional final game.
This season, the Polar Bears are seeking revenge in Class AA.
“Each year, we set goals,” said Fairmont Senior head coach Corey Hines. “We want to be three to four games better than we were the year before. We accomplished that goal last year, and if we can accomplish that goal this year, it can lead us through Charleston and give us an opportunity to make some noise.”
The only problem? FSHS will have to do it without its two leading scorers who graduated last season — Katie Nunan and Brooklyn Little.
Nunan averaged more than 12 points a game and is currently playing at Akron, and Little also scored in double figures.
“Leadership has been pretty good,” Hines said. “We learned a lot from the Brooklyn Littles and the Katie Nunans, which were some of our leaders from the past.”
Taking over the leadership role is a pair of seniors who played vital roles in the run from last season — Jenny Bundy and Gabrielle Tenney.
“I have two seniors this year,” Hines said. “I have Jenny Bundy and Gabbi Tenney returning. Both of those players got a lot of experience from last year. Jenny is our returning captain and Gabbi was our sixth woman of the year. She was the first player off the bench last year.”

The Falcons and MVB paired to complete th 21st annual MVB-Fairmont State Athletic Association Golf Tournament at the Bridgeport Country Club on Friday.
Fairmont State’s mission during the event was to sell out, so thar FSU could raise as much money as possible for the athletic department. -

Trefz took home the gold in the 3,200 meters in Charleston on Friday with a time of 9:36.21. -
