In his final wrestling season at Navy, Mason Bailey is going out in style.
The former Dutton Award winner and East Fairmont star took second place at the annual Navy Classic last weekend, fell in the 184-pound title match to 13th-ranked Casey Newburg of Kent State.
Bailey, who won the Classic title last season at 165, earned decision victories over Bucknell and George Mason wrestlers by a combined score of 24-1 to make his second straight finals appearance.
He’s now 11-3 on the year and 55-34 in his Midshipmen career.
Fellow Bees’ state champion Hunter Wood is in his second season at Army and his first as a varsity starter.
The 125-pounder has a season mark of 4-8 and seven career wins. He went 1-2 in Saturday’s home quad with Binghamton, Purdue and Rutgers. In the match versus the Bearcats, which was Army’s first win of the season, Wood picked up an 8-2 decision over Mike Sardo.
