Fairmont Senior extended the winning streak to nine consecutive games over North Marion on Friday night, 26-10.
Using a defensive presence, the Polar Bears were able to batter the Huskies much of the entire game.
Because of the work from both the defensive linemen and linebackers, the entire FSHS defensive squad contributed to eight sacks and two interceptions.
“The defensive linemen played a great game,” said middle linebacker Vincent Delligatti. “Andrew Summers was in the backfield the entire game. Stephen Wells also had a great game. They all were getting into the backfield. When you get in the backfield, it will cause problems, and I am so proud of the entire defensive line. If they all could get one game ball, then every one of them would be well deserving of it.”
The Huskies were granted another set of downs due to a botched punt return, which put the Polar Bears’ defense in a rough spot at the beginning of the game.
Defensive tackle Summers responded by laying the wood to a Husky running back and then making a huge sack that set the early presence in the game. Because of this sack, it allowed the entire Polar Bear squad the opportunity of rallying behind each other and making a team effort in shutting down NMHS’s offense.
