FAIRMONT — The Polar Bears are Beckley bound.
After a sectional sweep over the weekend, Fairmont Senior’s soccer teams simply kept the momentum rolling Tuesday night and now find themselves in the Class AA-A state tournament.
The FSHS girls’ team got a dominating performance en route to a 4-0 regional title win over Wheeling Central at East-West Stadium. Earlier in the evening, the Polar Bear boys edged Weir, 2-1.
Both now are headed to states, set for Nov. 2-3 at Beckley’s YMCA soccer facility. FSHS’s boys will take on Bluefield, a 3-2 quadruple-overtime winner over Pocahontas County in the other regional, at 11:30 a.m. next Friday. The Polar Bear girls, meanwhile, will play the afternoon session on the same day versus an opponent not made available at press time.
The trips south are a long time coming for each.
