It was a big night for East Fairmont’s girls as they toppled Elkins 3-1 in Thursday’s volleyball match.
The Bees came home off a loss last Saturday against Oak Glen. The Bees started out slowly, losing there first tightly played game against the Tigers. The Bees then rallied to win the next three games.
“The first couple games we weren’t ourselves,” said coach Debbie Spears. “The third game we played team ball and started playing together.
“If we win or lose, it’s usually because of our attitude. They needed a little adjustment the first game, and they pulled it together. We were scrappy tonight, and that’s how we try to play.”
A standout for the Bees was Breanna Efaw with three saves and three points.
“I honestly think we could’ve played better tonight, but we stepped it up and got it done though,” said Efaw.
“We are taught by coach Spears to go for it, dive, do whatever it takes.”
“We definitely stepped it up from our last match against Elkins. We could’ve played better and had a rough time the first game. We switched up the rotation some, but most importantly we stayed positive,” said Auri Shay, who totaled five saves and 14 points.
Tori Postlewait had 16 points and 2 saves.
“I think we stayed a lot more positive than on Saturday,” she said. “We had a lot more energy on the court and played together more.”
When the girls were asked what the team would be doing to prepare for the sectional tournaments, Efaw replied, “Drills on drills on drills.”

With the 11-0 win over Braxton County on Tuesday evening, and Oak Glen’s eight-inning 2-1 win over Ritchie County, the two teams find themselves squaring off against one another while fighting for a spot to play in the state tournament. -

On Tuesday, Summers signed her letter of intent to play at Fairmont State University.
“Ever since I started playing softball, I always told my parents that I was going to go to college and play softball,” she said. -
