Let the playoffs begin.
The No. 3-seeded Fairmont State women’s basketball team is hoping to continue its three-game winning streak past No. 14 seed Wheeling Jesuit.
On Saturday, FSU squeaked past Ohio Valley, 77-70.
This time, it isn’t any game. There can’t be any mess-ups because it’s the beginning of the WVIAC Tournament.
Although the Cardinals have a below average record at 8-18 overall and 5-17 in the WVIAC, they have a pair of players who can light up the scoreboard.
Jamie Sobczak leads Wheeling Jesuit at 13.1 points per game and Breanna Butler adds 12.1 points. Both were named to the all-WVIAC freshman team Sunday.
Earlier this season, the Lady Falcons rolled both times the Cardinals met the Falcons. Earlier this month, FSU tallied a 64-58 victory over WJU.
Although the Falcons were victorious in both games, Wheeling Jesuit was led by 18 points from Taneka Lewis. Kelsey Pacholke scored 14 points and Sobczak pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Painting the Falcons’ win is help from a slew of Falcons — Kaitlin Snyder, Hailey Garrett, Tiffany Nicholson, Briana Welch and Emily Lohr.
Almost every starter on the Lady Falcons’ squad averages near 10 points a game.
