FAIRMONT —
The loss against University on Friday night gave Fairmont Senior a chance to see what they are capable of doing during the rest of the 2012 season.
Yes, the Polar Bears fell to 2-3 on the season, but having back-to-back losses against high-profile teams such as Elkins and University helps make it less of a big deal.
Elkins is currently ranked third in Class AAA and University is ranked second in Class AAA behind Martinsburg.
Playing University tough in the first half gave Fairmont Senior the opportunity of taking what they did during the first half of the game and providing momentum for the rest of the season.
“We’ve become a better football team this week,” Fairmont Senior head coach Jared Mileto said. “Our schedule the last two weeks, and of course next week with Frankfurt coming to town, has been a hard stretch. Yeah, we lost to Elkins, and yes, we lost to University, but we lost to the No. 2 and 3 Triple A teams in the state.”
Playing against a football team as good as University, Mileto and the rest of the Polar Bear coaching staff had to make huge adjustments in order to keep their team competitive and confident.
