East, West face off for 92nd time

FAIRMONT — It’s East-West time — times 92.

That is how many games that will have been played in this historic prep football rivalry after tonight — eight until 100 — and this evening’s 7:30 battle is merely the latest.

And lately, the Polar Bears have had the upper hand.

Fairmont Senior has won four straight in the series, including a 48-0 romp last season which set a new mark for the largest margin of victory. The record FSHS win streak in the series is 10.

In all, the Polar Bears lead the all-time series, 56-28-7.

If anyone is familiar with East-West it is Bees’ head coach Bill Haddox, who starred for East in the 1960s and has led the program for the past decade.
