MORGANTOWN —
Volodymyr Gerun, a 6-9 Ukranian center/forward, will sign with the West Virginia University basketball program in the next few days and begin classes so he is eligible to play this season, according to published reports quoting unnamed sources.
Gerun currently is working his way through visa issues before taking over the scholarship that center Pat Forsythe vacated when he transferred following an injury-plagued freshman year.
Gerun, 18, like many Europeans, is a solid shooter who can rebound. In the under-18 European Championships in 2011 he averaged 18.2 points a game while grabbing 11.1 rebounds. His team finished 5-4.
