Trefz wins boys’ race in 25th year of event

WHITE HALL — While most saw gray, overcast skies and chilly temperatures that dipped in the low 50s, Fairmont Senior’s Nick Trefz had a different view of Saturday’s Times Invitational.

“I love it. It’s great weather,” the Polar Bears’ standout runner said of annual event, which celebrated its 25th anniversary. “The temperature is perfect and it didn’t rain, so I’m happy.”

Trefz keyed Fairmont Senior’s first-place team finish by winning the boys’ race at Apple Valley golf course. The performance was part of a near clean sweep for Marion County, as North Marion took home the girls’ team title.

For Trefz, the showing was a continuation of a solid senior year. The top ranked runner in Class AA-A and a top-five finisher at the 2011 state meet, he finished Saturday’s race in a blistering 16:43.
