Bees, Huskies aim for cheer title

County teams in AA state tourney today

FAIRMONT — If you go to any sporting event at East Fairmont, it is easy to see that the school’s student population has spirit.

The Bees have been to their share of big-time cheerleading competitions over the years and are now gearing up for another as the team — along with North Marion — will take part in today’s Class AA state championships set for noon at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.

“It’s a great feeling — this team has really worked hard. It was their goal from the beginning,” East cheer coach Karen Beckman said.

Beckman attributes the squad’s success to teamwork, the ability to master difficult stunts and a great deal of dedication. While Beckman praised all 13 of her cheerleaders, she went on to praise her six seniors and how they’ve dealt with adversity and numerous injuries.

“Whenever one girl is injured the rest of them just build them up and give them what they need to perform the routine,” she said.
