Q: What is this first week of football practice like? Are kids a little sluggish this time of year?
A: That first day, they are super excited. It’s the first day of football, and everyone is excited for that. We go early in the morning to try and dodge the heat, and kids are being asked to get up awful early — our first team meeting starts at 7 and we’re on the field by 7:30 — but they wake up quick. The guys that have been with me the last three years, we all agree this was the best first Friday we’ve had. It was max effort from these kids, and that’s what you want that first week.
