Kerens shines in ATV circuit

FAIRMONT — Carter Kerens is only 11 years old, but he knows how to ride an ATV and it’s easy to understand why when he’s been doing it for well more than half his young life.

While most 3-year-olds are riding tricycles or maybe a battery-operated vehicle from the toy store, Kerens was on his Suzuki 50 cc ATV learning to ride.

Kerens, who lives in Bellview and attends Rivesville Elementary School, took right to it and by the time he was 5 he began racing competitively. He races in cross country ATV races that take place on wooded courses about three or four miles in length and usually last about 45 minutes.

Today, Kerens is riding a Yamaha Raptor 125 in the Grand National cross country circuit as well as in the New East Coast XC series on his off weeks in the 8- to 15-year-old circuit.
