FAIRMONT —
Main Street Fairmont recently announced that it welcomed 190 participants on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the second annual 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk event.
Main Street Fairmont is an organization that promotes community and economic development. The event received support from numerous volunteers and a partner organization, the Associated Businesses of East Fairmont. The inaugural 2011 event was hosted by the City of Fairmont and was a celebration to mark the completion of the Gateway Connector.
Main Street Fairmont is proud to continue this celebration as it recognizes the possibilities this road represents.
“The 2012 NightGLOW race was a lot of fun,” said Kate Greene, executive director of Main Street Fairmont. “Runners run — rain or shine — and they smile while they’re doing it. There were a few bumps along the way as we figured things out, but the racers were great and super supportive. We had more participants this year than last and hope to see even greater numbers next year.”
Main Street would like to thank all the generous NightGLOW sponsors: Fairmont General Hospital, Novelis, Times West Virginian, Rider Pharmacy, MCPARC, Fantasia Broadcasting, FMCTA, Literacy Volunteers, CJ Maggie’s and Presort Plus. There were many other volunteers who gave their time, ideas and energy.
Awards were given to the top three male and female finishers overall for runners and walkers and to the top male and female runners for individual age groups.
“There were some missteps during the post-race award and recognition process — our apologies to the competitors who were overlooked,” Greene said. “The awards are important — it’s a mistake that we won’t make again. Fortunately, the race was chip-timed so all of the results are spot-on.”
The evening’s events included a 5K run, two-mile walk, music, refreshments and fireworks.
The winners of the 5K run were Kaylyn Christopher and Jack Devault.
Other male and female top runners included Earl Ambrozak and Krystle Bailey, Mikala Shremshock and Mark Offutt.
The top walkers were Kim Fairley and Collyn Pletcher, Sydney Pletcher and Robert Jones, Laura Randolph and Derrek West.
