Like any good soccer goalie, John Rinck usually made the save.
East Fairmont’s starting keeper also saved his best for last, turning years of work and development into an all-conference senior year.
And he’s been rewarded for it as Rinck will continue his soccer career at Alderson-Broaddus College. The East boys’ program held a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon at the high school to celebrate the signing.
“I’m so proud of this young man and the work that he’s done to get to this point,” East coach Fred Roman said. “He looked at quite a few colleges, but I was glad he went to play with Dan Kelly. That is a very good soccer school.”

Fairmont Senior’s five-year state championship streak in lacrosse came to an abrupt end against an undefeated (15-0) Mohigan team on Saturday afternoon, 12-9. -

This time, it was the 4 x 100- and 4 x 200-meter relay teams that brought home the gold at the state meet Saturday in Charleston. -

Jason Castro led off the 11th inning with a double and scored the go-ahead run on a close play at the plate as the Houston Astros topped the Pirates 4-2. -

The Falcons and MVB paired to complete th 21st annual MVB-Fairmont State Athletic Association Golf Tournament at the Bridgeport Country Club on Friday.
Fairmont State’s mission during the event was to sell out, so thar FSU could raise as much money as possible for the athletic department. -
Trefz wins state title in 3,200 meter
Winning it all.
Fairmont Senior’s senior phenom Nick Trefz can now call himself a state champion in track.
Trefz took home the gold in the 3,200 meters in Charleston on Friday with a time of 9:36.21. -

Seahawks’ Bruce Irvin suspended four games
