FAIRMONT —
The Fairmont Senior High School golf team is trying to repeat what it accomplished last season: being named Big 10 champions.
So far, the Polar Bears have rolled past the competition, earning the rights to a 12-4 conference record.
Although Fairmont Senior is having success during the regular season, the stats mean nothing heading into the Big 10 Championship match at Clarksburg Country Club today.
“Our guys are going to have to be really focused because everything rides on just one match,” said Fairmont Senior head coach Luke Corley. “We need to come out and shoot really low scores (today) because there will be a lot of tough competition there.”
The Big 10 Championship determines both the first- and second-team all-conference performers. The top nine finishers in the tournament are named First Team All-Conference. Finishers from 10-18 will be named to the second team.
The Big 10 Golfer of the Year is determined by the winner of the tournament. Whoever shoots the lowest score of the day is not only the medalist, but also the Big 10 Golfer of the Year.

With the 11-0 win over Braxton County on Tuesday evening, and Oak Glen’s eight-inning 2-1 win over Ritchie County, the two teams find themselves squaring off against one another while fighting for a spot to play in the state tournament. -
