Billy Eugene Summers

Billy Eugene Summers passed away Wednesday (Feb. 3, 2010). His family was happy that he was able to pass with his dearest friend, Kathleen Thurman, at his side.

Billy was born to Ruby and Vernor “Bub” Summers on May 21, 1925, in Jordan. Billy attended East High School and enlisted in the Navy promptly upon graduation. He spent his life in service to his country. He was a retired chief petty officer and later retired from civilian service with the Coast Guard.

An avid golfer, Billy proudly displayed his framed hole-in-one certificate on the wall of his living room. He loved gardening and each summer provided friends and neighbors produce from his garden. Billy was married for more than 50 years to Elinor June Burnfield of Fairmont. His wife, Elinor, and son, Mark, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Tina Leigh Goodman of Wake Forest, N.C., and Candy Lynn Summers of Oviedo, Fla., as well as two grandsons, Christopher Erichsen and Blake Coleman; and four great-grandchildren, Angel, Jacob, Samantha and Megan.

Billy will be buried at sea in a military ceremony. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Please visit Billy’s memorial to offer condolences to the family at www.mem.com.
