Richard Rieser

Richard Eugene Rieser, 83, of Fairmont, died Sunday (Feb. 24, 2013) in Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born July 3, 1929, in Clarksburg, the son of the late Edward Francis Rieser and Helen Amelia Dorsey Rieser.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Angeline Marie Audia Rieser; and his second wife, Vera Howard Rieser.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Paul and Melanie Rieser of Fairmont; a daughter, Terry Ann Rieser and her companion George Smallwood of Fairmont; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Rieser of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Dana Ann Parshall and her husband Steven of Wheeling, Kevin Richard Salai of Morgantown, Richard Eugene Rieser III of New Orleans, La., Sarah Ann Rieser of Charlotte, N.C., Megan Elizabeth Rieser of Parkersburg, Andrew Colborn Rieser and his wife Melissa of Hudson, Ohio, Carter Paul Rieser of Louisville, Ky., and Garrett Edward Rieser of Louisville, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Grant Parshall, Nicholas Parshall, Lyla Rieser and Camilla Rieser; and a close special friend, Pina Pellillo of Fairmont.

He is also survived by two stepchildren, Patsy Grindo and her husband Greg of Fairmont, and Roger Howard and his wife Peggy of Charlotte, N.C.; four step-grandchildren, Julie Dawn Vittorio of Charlotte, N.C., Jamie Grindo and his wife Traci of Charlotte, N.C., Shannon Grindo and his wife Kelli of Morgantown, and Cassaundra Goldrick and her husband Todd of Minneapolis, Minn.; and nine step-great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Bella Vittorio of Charlotte, N.C., Halee and Riley Grindo of Charlotte, N.C., Pyper and Carson Grindo of Morgantown, and Lydia, Launa and Nolan Goldrick of Minneapolis, Minn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Eugene Rieser Jr.

Richard was a retired district plant manager for C&P Telephone Co. He was Catholic by faith and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Fairmont. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a 1947 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg. Mr. Rieser enjoyed trout and bass fishing and was an avid Mountaineer sports fan. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 9 in Fairmont and a past president of the Weirton Lions Club.

Richard lived life to the fullest and loved to dance. He will be missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 1660 Mary Lou Retton Drive, Fairmont, at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father Stephen Joseph as celebrant. The committal service will follow in Stonewall Park Cemetery in Clarksburg.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont.
