Joseph Christopher

Joseph Christopher, a retired command sergeant major, passed away peacefully Tuesday (Nov. 20, 2012) in Murrieta, Calif.

He was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Fairmont.

He was preceded in death by his son, John P. Christopher, in 2003.

Joseph was a veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars, and served this country with the U.S. Army for 32 years. He received many Distinguished Service medals and awards during his military career. He was loved by all who knew him.

Joseph retired from the U.S. Army Security Agency in 1975 and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife during his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and William Hale of Wildomar, Calif.; granddaughters, Deanna Hale-Larson of Murrieta, Calif., and Amber Hale and great-grandson Kaden Randall of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; nieces, Kay F. Christopher and Charlotte Rinehart of Fairmont, Patty Smith, Dolores “Dodi” Johnson and Donna Lee Wilson; and nephews, Bill Wilson of Michigan and JJ Curtis of California.

Services will be held at 12:15 p.m. today at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
