Evelyn G. Jeffries

Evelyn G. Jeffries, 80, of Shinnston, passed away on Thursday (Nov. 22, 2012) at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1932, in Bethlehem, to the late John and Pearl Strait. On Jan. 2, 1953, Evelyn married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Gene Jeffries, who passed away on Oct. 26, 2002.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Jennifer Jeffries Cochran and husband Mark of Shinnston, Jacqueline Jeffries Fawley and husband James of Morgantown, Joanne Jeffries Baker and husband Scottie of Shinnston, John Jeffries and wife Penny of Shinnston, Jayme Jeffries and companion Lea Anna of Fairmont, Joel Jeffries of Shinnston, and Jay Jeffries and fiancé Stephanie of Shinnston; son-in-law, Donnie Minear; her 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Cochran and wife Theresa, Jeremy Cochran and wife Stacy, Sarah Cochran Perine and husband Andrew, Julie and Jessica Slate, Clista Lester Pizzi and husband Ricky, Levi Jeffries, Jesse Minear and companion Johanna, Jasmine Jeffries, Machaela Jeffries, Jager and Jaylyn Jeffries; and her 15 great-grandchildren, Emily, Anna and Mollie Cochran, Raley Jo Cochran, Maddox and Easton Perine, Brandon Miller, Raven and Talon Lester, Ryan, Gino, Holly and Vinny Pizzi and Cashuss Minear. In addition to her family, many others called her mom and grandma.

In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Jayne Jeffries Minear; grandson, Kamden Spear Jeffries; and brothers, Kenneth and Darrel Strait.

Evelyn was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, Shinnston, and attended Jewel City Church in her latter years. She graduated from St. Mary’s Nursing School in 1952.

Evelyn started her career at St. Mary’s Hospital and retired from United Hospital Center in 1990.

Evelyn enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her large family.

We appreciate the care from the nurses and staff from Amedisys Hospice Care of Anmoore.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will follow at the Jeffries Cemetery.
