Betty Irene Barnes Boord, 84, of Fairmont, died Thursday (Feb. 7, 2013) in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late George Howard Barnes and Rebecca Pearl Linn Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ezra Boord, on April 27, 2000.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Becky Boord of Fairmont and Sherry and Rick Gillett of Fairmont; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Karen Barnes of Fairmont; a sister, Nancy Turner of Mississippi; several nieces and nephews; seven sisters-in-law, Joann Layne, Laura May Cochran, Sally Boord, Jean and Donald Cosco and Dorothy Lucille Broadwater, all of Farmington, and Shirley and Bill Conrad and Susie Wright, all of Ohio; one brother-in-law, Bill Boord of Farmington; and a special friend, Ellen Bartlett and Buster.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Shreve.
Mrs. Boord was a retired employee from Wells Flowers of Fairmont. She was Baptist by faith and was baptized with her grandmother and mother at the Baptist Temple in Fairmont with Rev. Dr. William J. Bonner. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. Mrs. Boord enjoyed working the daily newspaper’s crossword puzzles, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed camping and vacationing at Smoke Hole with her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Perry Hall and his staff and the all of the caregivers at the Genesis Healthcare Tygart Center in Fairmont.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and Sunday from noon-2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Cyphers and Rev. Drew Long officiating. The entombment service will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery and Mausoleum in Fairmont.
