Richard Snider

FAIRMONT — Richard Arlen Snider, 82, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) at the Louis A. Johnson VMAC.

He was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Marion County, son of the late Lawrence and Jenny (Gandy) Snider.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from North American Philips in 1992. He was also employed by Swift Homes and A&P Grocery Store. Richard loved all sports, especially football. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

He is survived by three children, the Rev. Richard Snider II and wife Nora of Tunnelton, Billy Snider and wife Julia of Fairmont, and Jeanette Thompson and husband Brian of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Billy M. Snider and wife Sheila, Charity Snider, Elizabeth Snider, John Snider and wife Jessie, and Daniel Snider and wife Jackie; eight great-grandchildren, Blaine Shumiloff, Sebastion Snider, Riley Snider, Kolby Snider, Maylen Snider, Davon Thomas, Jaden Thomas, Hailey Snider; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Hawkins) Snider; and eight brothers and sisters, Buddy Snider, Billy Snider, Jack Snider, Howard Snider, Katherine Burke, Louise Sanders, Josephine Manley and Elizabeth Swisher.

Friends and family may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Sonny McNear officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery with full military rights being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
